Bradley is a Jersey based photographer and filmmaker with a love for visual story telling. He created O’Malley Visuals in 2018 following a heightened interest in his work. While his true passion was ignited through a love of travel, he has been busy working locally to shoot weddings and family portraits and working with local artists and companies to capture the essence of their brand and business. Bradley loves to work closely with his clients to ensure their visions are carefully crafted to produce the perfect piece.

“I now draw inspiration from the work of others and really believe collaboration is a key factor in the growth and success of my business."

Tell us about your path to setting up your business and what motivated you?

I have always needed a creative outlet in my life and over the past couple of years I fell in love with photography and film and rarely found myself without some sort of camera. My hobby quickly turned into an obsession which has led to the creation of my business, it was kind of a natural progression. Whether I’m taking photos on the cliff paths of Jersey, roaming the streets of Paris or flying my drone over the glaciers in Iceland, I’m motivated by the different stories to tell through my lens.

How do you work and what is a typical day like for you?

No day is really the same! If I have an upcoming shoot I like to feel prepared; meeting with the clients, understanding their vision and then carefully planning how to bring both of our ideas to life. If I have recently finished a shoot I will be editing and as I am a bit of a perfectionist, this is no quick task. I like to have a free mind, clean space and good music to maximise my productivity.

What are the best parts about your business?

There is no better feeling than having clients love the work you have produced. Being able to freeze moments in time that can be kept and shared forever is really special and something that I always look forward to. Creativity and taking risks is also an amazing side to this profession and I love being able to experiment and improve my skills.

What has been your greatest struggle as a business owner so far?

Comparison. Initially I felt overwhelmed by the vast amounts of other people striving to create a similar business alongside those already established on the Island. It’s quite an overpopulated market for such a small space! I now draw inspiration from the work of others and really believe collaboration is a key factor in the growth and success of my business.

What has been your biggest a-ha moment so far?

Realising that my hobby could become something more was a real turning point in my journey. As people began requesting me to photograph or film their events, I realised my potential to succeed and felt honoured that people believed in my work. I think this was always there but finding that confidence to take risks and start a business can be daunting, but the leap of faith is definitely worth it!

Do you have any advice for other small business owners?

Dreams don’t work unless you do. Creating a business isn’t easy but having passion and a desire to succeed is the perfect motivation to keep going.

What currently inspires you?

My surroundings. Whether that be the beautiful scenery Jersey has to offer, the new culture of an unexplored destination or other innovative and hard-working people. I find inspiration in the creators that keep the community thriving.
