Tell us about your path to setting up your business and what motivated you?

I've been involved in agencies for a while but never as a photographer myself! Last year I decided to try making it on my own and set up my business to see where it would take me. I've learnt a lot along the way and I'm building confidence in my style and what I've got to offer.

How do you work and what is a typical day like for you?

I work mainly on location and from my small studio in town...soon to be moving to a shared creative space! My days often start with answering lots of emails and always having a coffee at a local space (shout out to Locke's and Cargo!) and then it's editing a shoot or prepping for one or actually being on one. Each week is different for me and recently I've been offered great projects outside of the island and have the opportunities to travel which is just perfect to me.

What are the best parts about your business?

The other creatives that I get to meet and work with is for sure the best part. I'm a social creature most of the time and love to chat and compare ideas and share worries! Over the last few years I've met the most amazing creative people who have become good mates to me.

What has been your greatest struggle as a business owner so far?

If I'm being really honest, it's probably my own confidence in my work! That and trying to balance work and life which I know is echoed by lots of my friends lately. I'm hoping that as the business grows I will too and learn to balance and have confidence.

What has been your biggest a-ha moment so far?

You can't do it all! You can't say yes to everything or every bit of work that comes in. Actually saying no to work that isn't right for me has taught me to let things go and create my own path. My boyfriend Tom actually told me this over a year ago but you know, you have to figure these things out for yourself! ;)

Do you have any advice for other small business owners?

Support each other, you'd be surprised how much everyone else is feeling just like you despite their fab insta feeds. We're all just trying to work it out and that's why platforms such as this are really great. Reach out to other businesses and have a chat...

What currently inspires you?

Food stylists, my instagram feed is full of beautiful food styling! Also, I've recently been to Berlin and fell in love with their style and simplicity. My fellow photographer buddies inspire me all the time, they're all making such great work.
